„You peoples of the world! You peoples of America, of England, of France, of Italy!
Behold this city and realise, that you must not and actually can not desert
this city and this people!”

Ernst Reuter, mayor of Berlin, September 9th 1948

Historical background

From 1945 to 1948 relations between Americans and Germans dramatically changed: Former enemies became allies! In 1944 and ’45 American squadrons had relentlessly bombed and destroyed Berlin to free Europe from German tyranny, yet in 1948 those same pilots came to the city’s rescue and supplied Berlin by airlift thereby saving the citizens from the Soviets’ dictatorship threatening. 77 people gave their lives in the line of duty. “Bridges” tells the dramatic story of the fictitious American pilot Cpt. Bridges, who has to face his personal demons from the past and thereby does his part to steer a fallen people’s way into a new and bright future.
