Accompanying the movie a black and white graphic novel will be published. It will stay true to the visual style of the film. The intended date of publication will be May 12th 2009, at the 60th anniversary of the airlift´s official conclusion. The graphic novel will be distributed by the US Embassy as well as the Checkpoint Charlie Foundation in Germany and overseas. The graphic novel shall provide teachers and pupils in Germany and in the USA with a somewhat different approach to the historical subject at hand. The comicbook will be available in German and English language and is therefore suited not only for history classes but language studies as well.It is planned to release at least two sequels to this graphic novel, each taking place at another historic event in German-American history, featuring the main protagonists Lukas and Traute. The second installment will show the then 22-years old Lukas in the days of the erection of the infamous Berlin-Wall in 1961, while the third installment shall deal with the reunification of Germany in 1989/90.
